Crohns is an inflammatory bowel disease, any type of irritation on the intestine will aggraviate its current condition.

Alcohol can cause irritation on the intestinal linning.

because food alone does not go well w/ crohns, if u consume something taht is not good for people not suffering from crohns, it can’t be terribly good for crohns. Also, many people w/o crohns get sick wehn drinking.

Crohn’s disease is an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, also referred to as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Crohn’s disease can affect any area of the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus, but it most commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum. The swelling extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The swelling can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea.
You have to avoid problem foods, eliminate any foods that seem to make your symptoms worse. These may include “gassy” foods such as beans, cabbage and broccoli, raw fruit juices and fruits especially citrus fruits, spicy food, popcorn, alcohol, caffeine, and foods and drinks that contain caffeine such as chocolate and soda.

Crohns disease affects the liver and a few other major organs of the body in a very bad way. However, it mainly causes a serious inflamation of the gastro-intestinal tract. Drinking alcohol will cause more damage to your liver and if you don’t stop drinking, you could end up in need of a liver transplant or die. People who suffer from Crohns usually experience frequent diarhhea which can cause dehydration. Your kidneys can shut down if your body does not get enough fluids from extreme dehydration. Drinking alcohol will only make this problem worse

    Your choice……plain and simple

Alcohol is a stimulant and can make diarrhea worse and carbonated beverages can cause gas so drinks that use carbonation are a double source of problems.

Also the alcohol can interact with certain medications that people take for Crohn’s and this can also be a source of problems.

Here’s to good health to you and healing with your Crohn’s.

hi, as a fellow crohnie since the age of 12 I can tell you this: some of the medications used to treat this disease affects the liver. Mix alchohol with these medications & you are asking for trouble. Alchohol is known to irritate the gut thus, that is why it’s making you sick.

Ask your GI if you should be drinking & what meds don’t mix w/it. Also, check out the crohns & colitis foundation site. They have loads of information esp. on diet, meds, exercise, dating, women’s issues, surgery, plus you can even locate a local support chapter where you are so you can meet others like yourself.

Seriously, is it really worth all that pain and misery just to fit in or ease the pain?? Life is too short & dealing with this disease is a pain in the butt. (no pun intended)
